This cumulates my series on the bond between myself and my twin brother. emulating mine and my twin's relationship rebuilding despite trauma and barriers against it. Not only does the pieces meaning bring the series together, it also aesthetically ties to my earlier final completed works. Combining the small rough relief sculpture, with the larger bust, to create a substantial and expressive piece.
The solidity of the main sculpture (cast in marble) references the permanence of this image of my brother in my memory. The small sketch like relief is representative of our evolving indifferences as we grew up, the physical moving away embodies our becoming emotionally distant.
The final part to the series, is what you can see bellow. It depicts how we now seem like entirely separate beings, even though we are intrinsically linked from birth which is why I chose to show us in the foetal position. I originally wanted it to be cast in plaster, but given its properties (being brittle and weak) it was inevitably also cast in marble, however left with a rough finish, appearing plaster like. The piece references a stronger bond, but not taking away from the pure solidity of the larger more refined marble piece. Having it cast enabled me to piece the two together, creating a double-sided relief.
